So Octavian seems like the model Slytherin: cunning, ambitious, charismatic, shrewd, focused on tradition. But the thing is, how much of that is actually him? How much of those are actually his values? They’re the ones he was taught to show and respect. The influence that Camp Jupiter had on him.

I view him as being a Harry-like character. Sure, he possesses Slytherin traits, but the ones that show in the most vital situations are Gryffindor. When he was being influenced by Gaea, he thought he was saving people. Doing the right thing. Yes, he was protecting his home, a Slytherin-like show of loyalty, but he was also trying to protect everyone else. In his eyes, destroying the Greek demigods was a small matter in a bigger, more important picture.

Not to mention, this boy is brave. Not only did he do what he thought was right, but he went against rules, traditions- that have been in his camp- his home- for centuries, just to do what he thought was right. And that’s one of the most- if not the most- emphasized Gryffindor traits throughout the Harry Potter series.

He also wanted to be seen as a hero. He wanted to be seen as the savior of Camp Jupiter, like Jason (who is, very clearly, a Gryffindor.) And Octavian said himself that he must be the one. The one who saved everyone.
